Good grief
Alright, perhaps I was premature in calling Dynasty. Another year, another pulling away of the football, Lucy to Charlie Brown style. Yup, Cubs lost. Swept, actually. Badly. Flailingly pathetically effetely badly. It was a performance that echoed the terms I used last year at this time: feeble, limp, flaccid, passive, supine, dormant, somnolent, soporific. I’ll add self-immolating, for it was a sweep - to the LA Mannys! Who barely finished north of .500! - due to, in order, walks, errors, and the utter inability to move runners along. And that Manny-hustling-for-home replay that TBS showed ad nauseam - yeah, with a good throw to the plate, he would have been gunned down like the clutch-hitting, lumbering 36-year-old he is.
Scoop Jackson and Gene Wojciechowski of ESPN.com summarize it pretty well. This was worse than worse than ever.
At least Kyle Orton, aka Captain Neckbeard, seems determined to remind people that he and Drew Brees really went to the same school.
Ugh. I was rooting for them, too.
Hopefully, Chicago will get a much more important victory in November.
