Baby Chronicles, Part 8: Crib Turntablism
Big couple of weeks on the baby milestone front, first crawling, and now solid food. Solid food may be a misnomer, given that he’s not eating prawns off the barbie or lamb keema or anything like that; suffice it to say we’ve begun the ritual of coaxing spoonfuls of rice cereal into our pocket dynamo’s mouth. Unfortunately I accidentally taught him how to give the raspberry, which is a very effective means of distributing those spoonfuls hither and yon.
The crawl comes in two categories: a downward dog-like rollicking motion, and an infantry grunt-like crawl forward. When the twain meet is when the chasing shall begin.
The inspiration for today’s post, however, is a new spin move he has unfurled that entails using crib rails to run around the crib while on his back. Breakdancing meets The Matrix.
It reminds me of the old-school turntablist trick of balancing on the turntable on one or two arms and rotating with the record. With that, I give you Herbie Hancock’s Rockit, the song that may have begat turntablism.
